McLennan County Commissioners approved a request by Indigent Health Care Director Wanda Koon to license CPT® codes and long descriptions from Indigent Healthcare Solutions (IHS). The Commissioners were told that effective September 1, 2003, Texas Counties had to have a license with the American Medical Association (AMA) in order to legally use the CPT codes and long descriptions. The Texas Department of Health (TDH) is only providing CPT codes with short descriptions and did not provide the revised payment rates in an electronic format. IHS will provide the codes, long descriptions, and updated payment rates to McLennan County electronically. IHS is the only provider of indigent health care software that is licensed by the AMA to provide CPT codes with long descriptions as part of its offering. |
